About the Online Training Program
The Family Law Detection Of Overall Risk Screen (DOORS) online training program will assist professionals to implement the Family Law DOORS in everyday practice. This fully supported training will help professionals in the family law system to:
- discover the mechanics of the DOORS screening
- learn how to elicit client background efficiently
- detect and respond to the ‘Big Five’ risks after separation
- apply coordinated responses to identified patterns of risk
The DOORS online training program has been developed by the Australian Institute of Social Relations and is based on the Family Law DOORS Handbook. To find out more about the authors of the Family Law DOORS Handbook click here.
Who can participate?
This training program has been specifically designed for professionals working in the family law system, including community based mediation and post separation services.
Participants will receive a Family Law DOORS Online Training Program Certificate of Completion, which can be used towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units. It is advisable to liaise with the relevant professional organisation about mandatory requirements for Continuing Professional Development units.
Training Program Format
The training program is provided as an interactive online course involving audiovisual presentations, video lectures and interviews, video case demonstrations, interactive case studies and quizzes.
We estimate the learning and associated activities will take eight hours to complete. You can work through these at your own pace over a ten week period.

- The evidence underpinning DOORS
- How to use the DOORS
- Reading the DOOR 2 report

To successfully complete the training program, you must have the Family Law DOORS Handbook that includes the DOORS software. The handbook and software is included in the price of your enrolment and you will be able to download them when you start the online course from our learning management system.
This software only operates on Windows 7 operating system. It is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, and requires Microsoft Office 2010 software to run. The DOORS software also requires Adobe Reader, which is available for free download at the Adobe website.
The DOORS Online Training Program uses HTML5, Flash and AJAX programming.
At this time, we do not support mobile operating systems such as those found on Android tables and phones, iPads and most smart phones. To use the program, you will need current versions of Mac OS and Windows 7 or later operating systems on a desktop or laptop.
